- Your carry handgun (9 mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, .357 Sig suggested.)
- .380 / .32 ACP / .25 ACP / .22LR is not advised - they jam a LOT. The only ones that jam in class are the ones that "never had a problem before."
- Quality holster (kydex or stiff leather - stays open for reholstering)
- OWB (outside waistband) is OK!
- IWB (Inside the Waistband) is OK!
- AIWB (appendix inside the waistband) is OK!
- No nylon holsters / no SERPA Holsters.

- .22 LR Pistols, .25 ACP pistols, .32 ACP pistols (they jam too much - and the only ones that ever jam in class are the ones that "never had a problem before")
- Serpa Holsters forbidden unless required by your department / security firm.
- Nylon holsters forbidden.
- Revolvers forbidden for Essential Pistol
Why does Patriot Training not allow revolvers in Essential Pistol?
A - Because revolvers are not as reliable as modern semi autos. Check out the schools that do offer revolver classes - they all reduce round counts. And all of them talk about how many revolvers go down in each class. ALSO - revolvers tend to have a shorter sight radius, and a longer, harder trigger pull - making them extremely difficult to shoot well. If you'd like to train with your revolver - Check out our "ESSENTIAL REVOLVER" Class!
Why does Patriot Training not allow Serpa Holsters?

ESSENTIAL SHOTGUN - The Ultimate Home Defense Class! ($229)
Home Defense Specialty Class
The shotgun is the most commonly used home defense implement. In a home invasion, the shotgun makes it possible for you to dominate the area. When properly loaded, the 12-gauge shotgun provides the quickest way for a civilian to shoot an attacker 8 times. The shotgun is cheaper than most defensive firearms, and plenty effective. Come learn how to master this tool of self defense.

GUNS & GEAR
- Safe, functional shotgun... 12-Ga or 20-Ga. PREFERRED
- Bolt action, lever action, pump action, single shot, double barrel, semi automatic, etc. All safe functional shotguns are welcome.
- Tube fed - make sure to take the plug out of the tube!
- Chambered in any common shotgun gauge. (See the buckshot requirement)
- Some means to carry extra ammo on the shotgun. (Shell Sleeve / holder)
- Side saddle or buttstock cuff attachment.
- Break action (single shot and double barrel) - you MUST bring a pouch for extra ammo.
- 120 rounds birdshot ammunition - same brand, same type.
- 15 rounds buckshot. Suggested loads:

Rapid blood loss is the most preventable cause of death. This class goes over best practices and best tools for stopping the rapid blood loss. Topics start with theory and are heavy on practical application.
Topics: tourniquet indications, tourniquet application, tourniquet selection, tourniquet comparisons, wound pack indications wound pack applications, wound pack materials selection, pressure dressing indication, pressure dressing application, pressure dressing selection, chest seal indication, chest seal application, and chest seal selection; and other pertinent topics.
Completion of Essential Medical will satisfy the coursework for Stop the Bleed.

The problem with the carry permit class is that it is only a SAFETY class, and not a TRAINING class.

This class has all of the features of our famous Essential Pistol class, reorganized for the revolver shooter.
