Monthly Small Unit Tactics

Individual gun skills are very good. Team skills are what separates the men from the boys. PT Tactical Goon Squad is by INVITE ONLY. Every member is personally vetted/. All members are Alumni of Expert Rifleman and/or Urban Rifleman.

Advanced Training

Take your marksmanship and tactical skills to the next level. Learn how to run as a team. Confirm with live fire every month.

Faster Paced

Because Goons are expected to be squared away, there will be less build up, less pomp and circumstance, and less down time. Arrive 30 minutes early, squared away, and ready to go.

Become a Goon - a member of our exclusive team. This is a brotherhood. What happens in Goon Squad stays in Goon Squad. You have a role - and the rest of the Goons are depending on you performing your role.

Goon Special Events

From time to time, the PT Tactical Goon Squad will have an ALL DAY field exercise - the Damned Fun Time (DFT). We will do quals. We will review medical. We will grill out at the end of the day!

Early in the year, we will vote on the dates of the DFT.

Goon Training Standards

A good Goon will make every attempt to take Expert Rifleman, Urban Rifleman, and Essential Pistol. Be working toward taking all three of these. There is little overlap in these three core classes, and all are essentials for Goons who want to be able to make a difference.

Training:

9 am – 12 noon

This class by invite only.

Curriculum

The following topics shall rotate monthly:

1. Security Patrol & react to contact

2. Recon Patrol & ambush

3. Raid & CQB

4. Supply Run

5. Recon + LP/OP & Sniper operations

6. Skills & Drills & Quals: Rifle and pistol improvement & medical

Prerequisites:

All participants must have taken either Urban Rifleman or Expert Rifleman

Required Items:

· Rifle & 4+ magazines, with sling - ZEROED.

· Pistol, holster, 2+ mags

Be working towards:

· Chest rig and/or battle belt

· Camo attire, hat, boots

· Patrol pack with the 5 Cs, 2 quarts water

· Walkie-Talkie style radio with standard GMRS/FRS channels (optional - headphone / mic)

(Midland suggested – balance of cost and reliability.)

· Notepad & pen (write in the rain preferred)

· Eye & Ear protection

** Anyone who has had Urban Rifleman or Expert Rifleman and has been admitted to the group comes in as a Goon 1.

WEAPONS MASTERY

Weapons mastery is a pursuit each Goon should undertake.

Here are some good individual rifle drills that will increase skills.

Magnificent 7

1. Tap-Rack.

2. Ready-Up.

3. Mozambique

4. 2-R-2.

5. 2-T-2.

6. Kneel + 2.

7. 2-S-2.

Tap-Rack. Get on target, get a click, tap & rack, then 2 shots.

Ready-Up. This will technically be a double tap. 2 shots.

Mozambique. 2 shots to the body, one to the head.

2-R-2. 2 shots, reload, 2 more shots.

2-T-2. 2 shots, transition to pistol, 2 more shots.

Kneel + 2. Start standing, kneel, ready-up, 2 shots.

2-S-2. 2 shots, switch shoulders, 2 more shots. Off-shoulder, and partial off shoulder are both acceptable.

Marksmanship

From a backpack support or bipod, or resting on the magazine:

10 hits out of 10 shots in 90 seconds or less.

BONUS: Hit 10 out of 10 in 60 seconds or less.

10 hits = Perfect

9 hits = Expert

7 hits = Sharpshooter

6 hits = Marksman

0 - 5 hits = Pro-Marksman

Sniper

From standing with bolt locked back, and magazine inserted:

Drop to prone, get on target, make a hit at 500 yards.

Expert = 0 - 7.99 seconds

Sharpshooter = 8.00 - 8.99 seconds.

Marksman = 9.00 - 10.00 seconds.

Pro-Marksman = 10.01 + seconds. Or a miss at any time.

Trident drill

15 yards away. IDPA target or similar. A-Zone and C-zone count as hits. D-zone results in add 1 second. Miss = add 5 seconds.

5 shots standing, mag change,

5 shots kneeling, mag change,

5 shots prone.

0 - 29.99 seconds = Expert

30 - 37.99 seconds = Sharpshooter

38 - 45.00 seconds = Marksman

Pistol

5 shots, 5 yards, 5 seconds, 5 inch circle

Done from Draw with 0 misses = Expert

Done from Low Ready with 0 misses in 5 seconds = Sharpshooter

Done from Low Ready with 0 misses or 1 miss in 20 seconds = Marksman

Done from Low Ready, with 2 or more misses, or taking longer than 20 seconds = Pro-Marksman

Formation: Diamond

Uniform Defaults

· Woodland (M81) pattern is the default.

· Goon Squad members are urged to stick with a common and effective pattern, and a military style build.

· The Tennessee State Flag, in a color that corresponds to the wearer’s rank, is worn at the uppermost of the right arm. Exception: if the Goon Squad member is current or former Military, the US Flag shall be placed in the uppermost position on the right arm, and the Tennessee flag below that, as is in accordance with the US Flag Code.

· Boonie hat or ball cap, at wearer’s preference.

· Eye and Ear protection at all times.

· Good hiking boots, preferably of a natural (not bright) color, so as to help blend into the environment.

Weapon Defaults

· Rifle: AR-15 platform strongly preferred.

o Light preferred

o Sling preferred

o Rifle must be zeroed to the ammunition carried.

· Rifle magazines: enough to carry 150 rounds. (That would be five 30-round AR magazines)

· Battle Belt or chest rig to carry the mags, and other materials.

· Sidearm: semiauto striker fired pistol preferred.

o GLOCK 19 size or larger preferred.

· Sidearm magazines: enough to carry 30+ rounds.

Gear Defaults

· Subdued color rucksack / backpack with the 10 C’s of survival packed, as well as mission specific gear.

· IFAK with at least a TQ, gauze for pressure dressing, gauze for wound pack, a chest seal, and shears.

· Midland or similar radio with standard GMRS/FRS channels.

o Earpiece / mic optional but suggested.

What if I need to zero my rifle?

Bring an extra box of ammo (same make, same type)

This presumes two key facts about life:

First - there are people who are more valuable to us than others. This is natural. Family, Friends, and Community. These innocent lives are what we fight for.

Second - there are bad people in the world. By definition, these are people who would deny life or liberty from a Goon or his family, friends, or community. Some people need to be killed, and these are them.

Medical Gear Suggestions

These items are suggested for Goon Squad members as being the premium medical equipment you can carry. We will learn how to use all of these devices.

Tourniquets

Patriot Training suggests the SAM-XT Tourniquet. Get one from Rescue Essentials.

Gauze and Israeli Bandage

Gauze for pressure dressing, gauze for wound packing, and an Israeli bandage, all in one!

The Oleas bandage can be had from Rescue Essentials.

Compressed Gauze

You may wish to carry additional compressed Gauze. Here is some from Rescue Essentials.

Chest Seals

A chest seal can be used on a sucking chest wound.

Get a Hyfin chest seal pair from Rescue Essentials

Shears

Shears can be used to remove clothing from the affected area so treatment can be made.

Get a heavy duty pair of shears from Rescue Essentials.
